Join us for an informative half-day workshop aimed at all health practitioners (medical, nursing and allied health) who wish to build their knowledge and confidence in supervising university students on placement.

Principals of Effective Clinical Supervision will take place on Wednesday, 17 April 2024 at the Philip Street Communities & Families Precinct in Gladstone from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. It is a free event with afternoon tea provided.

This workshop is supported by Health Workforce Queensland, The University of Queensland, Central Queensland Rural Health Services and the Gladstone Health Education Pathways Working Group.


Presenter - Associate Professor Dr Sneha Kirubakaran | Head, Regional Training Hub CQ, UQ Rural Clinical School
Dr Sneha Kirubakaran is an Associate Professor with the University of Queensland Rural Clinical School and the Head of the Regional Training Hub Central Queensland in Rockhampton. She locums as a Rural Generalist in small country hospitals around Central Queensland. She has been teaching clinicians how to be better teachers and supervisors for 14+ years and has delivered various workshops on faculty development in Australia, China, and Iraq.  She has volunteered as a doctor and medical teacher in countries such as Indonesia, Timor Leste, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Israel, Iraq, the Marshall Islands, and China.


Learning objectives - By the end of this interactive workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the broad concepts of effective clinical supervision including adult learning principles, reflective practice, teaching a clinical skill, giving effective feedback, and dealing with a learner in difficulty
  • Identify examples from their prior experiences of things to emulate or things to avoid for effective clinical supervision
  • Identify areas for immediate practical application and use

Accreditation
Participants will be able to claim 3 hours of CPD.
