This year we focus on "Revitalising Dairy Production" through rearing young stock efficiently for the long-term profitability of the business; and through listening to the newer generation of farmers and professionals who will rejuvenate the industry through innovation and better management.
In 2018 we are bringing the Dairy Research Foundation Symposium back to Camden in NSW!
The annual Symposium is the Dairy Research Foundation’s signature event, and is the largest Dairy event in NSW, widely recognised throughout the Australian dairy industry as a showcase of dairy science in application.
This year will kick off once again with our Industry events, where our industry bodies come together to stage their meetings, forums and updates. We welcome the collaboration of NSW Farmers, Dairy Connect and Dairy NSW whom are all participating again this year.
We have a brilliant line up of leading speakers for the 2018 Symposium, headed by Dr Robert (Bob) James, Professor Emeritus (Virginia Tech) and President of Down Home Heifer Solutions. Dr James combines a vast experience in research and extension in dairy science at Virginia Tech (where he is now Emeritus Professor), with a hands-on approach to calf and heifer rearing and the inclusion of advanced technologies such as automated calf feeding systems and on-farm pasteurizers.
Farm Day will take us to ‘Leppington Pastoral Company’ - a family owned and operated dairy farm in Bringelly. The dairy was founded in 1951 at Leppington by Kolombo and Julia Perich. Their two sons Tony and Ron developed the business to what it is today, now run by third generation dairy farmers. Attendees will be impressed by this modern dairy facility milking 2000 cows, one of the largest in Australia.
In keeping with tradition, the real focus of the Farm Day will be our Emerging Scientists - the best and brightest of our next generation researchers. Bring your voting hats as they vie for first place in the 2018 DRF Emerging Scientist Award!
We look forward to catching up with our loyal attendees but we also want to extend a welcome invitation to any farmers who haven’t previously attended. Be assured you will be welcomed with open arms – we truly believe that you will walk away from the event with inspiration and ideas to implement in your own business, new contacts within the industry and stimulated passion for what you do.
We look forward to welcoming you to Camden in July 2018!
