Afternoons with Geshela

Everyone is welcome. Teachings are interpreted by Voula Zarpani.

Confession to 35 Buddhas: Lama Atisha explained why reciting the names of the Thirty-five Buddhas has so much power. In the past, when the Thirty-five Buddhas were bodhisattvas, they made many prayers to be able to benefit sentient beings, to easily purify our defilements and negative karma.

Date & time: Saturday 18 August; 2.00-5.00pm

Shamatha: Shamatha is the practice of calming the mind and its ‘formations’. This is done by practicing single-pointed meditation most commonly through mindfulness of breathing. Shamatha is the basis of all Buddhist practice. The process of undoing bewilderment is based on stabilizing and strengthening our mind.

Date & time: Saturday 15 September; 2.00-5.00pm

Vipassana: Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation. In the Buddhist tradition means insight into the true nature of reality, ultimately cultivating the wisdom realising the emptiness of inherent existence.

Date & time: Saturday 20 October; 2.00-5.00pm

Refuge in the Three Jewels and Refuge Ceremony: Geshela will give a brief teaching on what it means to take refuge and vows of individual liberation and offer refuge to those who wish to formalise their commitment to following the Buddhist path.

Date & time: Saturday 17 November; 2.00-5.00pm
