Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

Friday 29 June 2018

Welcome from the President

Economics and Business Educators NSW invites you to the 2018 EBE NSW Annual Conference, which will be held at the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, at the University of Technology Sydney.

For many years now, this annual event has been the premier conference for teachers of Economics, Business Studies, Legal Studies and Commerce in NSW and from Australian International Schools overseas. The conference provides a unique opportunity for teachers in our subject areas to gather as a community to strengthen professional knowledge, skills and practice.

Our theme this year is “Transforming our World through Economics, Business and Legal Education” with our keynote speaker, Ms Katerina Kimmorely,
Co-Founder of Pollinate Energy, speaking about how the social enterprise Pollinate Energy is changing lives by providing jobs as well as clean energy to some of the poorest people on the planet through its innovative pricing strategy. The conference program for 2018 provides a variety of workshop opportunities on topics including 2017 NESA HSC examination feedback , effective teaching and learning strategies for Economics, Business Studies, Legal Studies and Commerce, and content areas such as current economic conditions in the Australian economy . A field trip will be offered to “Youth Hostels Australia” focusing on the Marketing and Human Resources key business functions of this business. There will be workshops focusing on the management skills of Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) Heads of Department in relation to developing an effective faculty.

The conference will provide teachers with valuable networking opportunities with other teachers beyond their own school. There will also be a range of exhibitors at the conference providing delegates with an opportunity to obtain information about the latest teaching and learning resources available for Economics, Business Studies, Legal Studies and Commerce.

EBE NSW is offering two professional learning grants for rural EBE NSW members and I encourage our rural members to apply for these grants.

The 2018 EBE NSW Annual Conference will provide a diverse range of professional learning opportunities for all participants. I look forward to welcoming you to our conference in Sydney on 29 June 2018.
