Mental Health First Aid Training - Two day course

 

Introduction

MHFA is the initial assistance given to an individual with a mental health problem before medical treatment can be obtained. It is the help provided to an individual developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.

Content

Delivered by nb&a group’s accredited instructors, this 12 hour (2 x 6 hour days) Mental Health First Aid Course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants will be educated on the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, together with the how, what, when and where to administer first aid in a crisis situation for:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • psychosis
  • substance use disorder


The course uses evidence based research and addresses possible crisis situations arising from these mental health problems with a practical first aid response. Crisis situations covered are suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, acute psychotic behaviour, aggressive behaviour and severe effects of substance abuse.

MHFA Training is comprised of four modules, delivered over two days, and totals 12 hours of training. Price includes MHFA Manual, morning and afternoon teas, and lunch.

Doula has over 25 years of experience as a return to work consultant, providing education, return to work services, project management and quality assurance programs to a number of private organisations and government sector clients.

Doula has a particular interest and is skilled in mental health first aid and workplace wellbeing. As a qualified trainer, Doula is committed to teaching people how to be the best they can and achieve their real potential both at work and in their personal health management. Workplace wellbeing and resilience are key areas of Doula’s training delivery and essential to all healthy workplaces. She is well received and in demand, largely due to her ability to build rapport and adapt her skills and interest to enable a tailored approach to client’s needs.

Doula introduced Mental Health First Aid training to South Australia in 2004 and remains focused on her goal of seeing a qualified Mental Health First Aid Officer in every workplace.
