- 1-day online session led by a Licensed MHFA Instructor
Introduction
Mental health first aid is the help provided to someone who is developing a mental health problem, has a worsening of an existing mental health problem or is in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. Mental health first aid strategies are taught in evidence-based training programs authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and conducted by accredited MHFA Instructors across Australia.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults working or living with adolescents (those aged between 12 and 18 years), however, the course can be relevant for those helping people who are a little younger or older. This course is particularly suitable for parents, teachers, sports coaches, and youth workers.
Adolescence is a time of important change and development. It is also a time when young people are at high risk of developing mental health problems such as depression and anxiety first emerge. The Blended Youth MHFA courses equips school staff, teachers, support workers, parents and other adults with the knowledge and skills to support a young person experiencing mental health problems.
In this informative and practical course, you will learn about the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in adolescents, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide mental health first aid in a crisis situation, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.

The desire to see better education in this sphere comes from her work as a consultant working with organisations that have persons with psychological injuries and illnesses from their employment, ranging from mild through to catastrophic, returning work injured employees to their usual occupation or new employment.
