Looking After Mental Health in Your Facility
Pymble Ladies' College | 9:00am-1:00pm
What is ‘mental health’? It’s an expression that is used regularly but is frequently misunderstood. It is often used to describe conditions such as depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. However according to the World Health Organisation, mental health is ‘a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.'
Good levels of mental health are associated with increased learning, creativity and productivity and positive social relationships. Negative mental health conditions on the other hand cause distress and impact on day-to-day functioning and relationships.
Being able to identify and respond to staff experiencing mental health issues is a major part of being a swim centre manager, coordinator or supervisor. This workshop will help you identify when someone may be having mental health challenges, start thinking about strategies to assist, and avenues to obtain more information and support.
