FRIDAY WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Digital wound mapping
The role of wound tomography is expanding, the use of digital mapping creates a better understanding of what is being seen. This workshop is an introduction to wound mapping and how this can be incorporated into holistic wound management.
Presenter: Michelle Barakat-Johnson
Lower Limb Skin Tears: Minimising complications – Improving outcomes
Skin tears are considered a common & recurrent acute skin injury for the older person living with dermatosclerosis. Our primary focus of course is risk minimisation & prevention – that's a given right? But if a skin tear occurs on the lower leg regardless of category / type, are we doing all we can to optimise outcomes and prevent ''complex & complicated'' hard-to-heal wounds that negatively impact the person, the region and skin integrity.
In this interactive workshop, we will explore best practice recommendations, key steps & handy hints to ensure we really see the risk of skin tears (&/or acute injury) on the lower limb, and that our bundled care delivery is the best it can be – initiated ''right'' at the time of injury.
Presenter: Wendy White
Wound pain management
For patients wound pain is only assessed at time of dressing change, the long term of effects of chronic pain are well known but are rarely discussed when considering wound care. This workshop will cover the role of analgesia and holistic care needs of a patient with wound pain.
Presenter: Mandy Pagan
When all else fails (vascular)
The patient with the chronic wound is often given a palliative approach however there may still be options. This workshop discusses the sometimes-overlooked options of vascular wound care.
Presenter: Rebecca Aburn
Negative pressure wound therapy
NPWT has been available since the late 1990’s. The purpose of the therapy is unchanged, but the exponential growth of the technology is at times unutilised. This workshop looks at the possibilities of Negative pressure wound therapy.
Presenter: Emil Schmidt
