Online Session - Skills First: Suitable & Appropriate Training

Through the VET Development Centre (VDC), the current professional learning program is being adapted in response to COVID-19. We aim to meet your needs whilst ensuring our staff, presenters, the community and all those who interact with us are kept as safe as possible.

The Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) is providing free online professional learning to teachers (trainers and assessors) and other staff directly involved in directing students to training options at Skills First  providers. 

Description

Training providers delivering Victorian Skills First  funded training are required to provide training that is right for students. This engaging 1-hour online session that unpacks the contractual obligations with an emphasis on Pre-Training Reviews (PTRs) and how this directly influences the training plan to support quality delivery. 

*Please note - this online session is a virtual workshop and there will be no recording of the session.

Level

Introductory (New to the topic):

These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have a broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment; they operate independently and seek guidance when necessary. 

Audience

Participants will also ideally have a basic understanding of the current 2018-19 VET Funding Contract (extended to 31 December 2020). Please note this program is only for training providers with a Skills First  contract. You can check your eligibility under ‘Provider’ at this link: www.skills.vic.gov.au.

 

Topics Covered

  • Understand the 2018-19 Skills First  VET Funding Contract (extended to 31 December 2020) with respect to suitable and appropriate training
  • Suitable training – ensuring every student is enrolled in a suitable course through a high-quality Pre-training Review
  • Appropriate training – delivering training that takes into account the needs of the individual
  • Ensuring your Pre-training Review Business process meets contractual requirements.

VDC’s consultants have experience arising from a range of roles in VET that include responsibility for quality and compliance, contract management, educational leadership and servicing of industry needs. VDC and our facilitators are committed to building the capability of VET professionals and providers to create quality training opportunities aligned with evolving policy and professional practice expectations.
