The 2020 Program has now been adapted in response to COVID-19 to be delivered online.

Virtual Workshops:

These online sessions have been adapted from a full day workshop to a 3-hour online virtual workshop by experienced VDC consultants.
They will be run in a smaller group, with break out rooms for group discussion and ample opportunity to converse with group members and the facilitator to collaborate, share ideas and insights.
This virtual workshops will also include access to an e-book learning resource for those who attend.

Description

Through the VET Development Centre (VDC), the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) aims to improve the capability and capacity of the pre-accredited VET sector by making a range of professional learning opportunities available to Learn Local providers.

The professional learning opportunities reflect the goal of the Pre-accredited Quality Framework to ensure that quality and continuous improvement are embedded throughout all aspects of pre-accredited planning, program design and delivery, including improved learner pathways. 

These full day workshops have been designed and adapted into a highly interactive virtual workshop for 25 participants. This series of four virtual workshops that will enable Learn Local providers to focus on outreach and engagement, learner support and wellbeing, teaching and learning and pathways for a diverse range of learners.

*Please note - this online session is a virtual workshop and there will be no recording of the session.

Follow up online sessions

The Learn Local Access, Choice & Equity Series also have an action learning activity post the virtual workshop. These follow up online sessions provide an opportunity to reconnect with the facilitator and group in a one-hour session. These online sessions are a chance to network, share insights and consolidate learning.
Attendees of the virtual workshops will receive a registration link to these sessions.

Audience

For practitioners teaching, training or assessing in Learn Local and ACFE.

Virtual Workshop 1 - Developing Outreach & Engagement

Dates: Tuesday 14 July or Tuesday 6 October

Objectives:

  • Identify and apply strategies to reach & engage learners
  • Identify and apply strategies to reach & engage partners.

Learning Outcomes:

This workshop enables participants to:

  • Interact effectively with learners from a variety of cultures and backgrounds
  • Access and utilise info and research sources about VET practise and the VET sectors appropriate to teaching level and industry areas.

Level:

Introductory (New to the topic): These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have a broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment; they operate independently and seek guidance when necessary. 

Virtual Workshop 3 - Teaching Strategies to Improve Learning

Dates: Monday 24 August or Thursday 5 November

Objectives:

  • Apply effective learning and teaching theories
  • Design options and facilitation techniques for improved classroom outcomes.

Learning Outcomes:
This workshop enables participants to:

  • Demonstrate a range of facilitation strategies to respond to diverse learner groups and contexts
  • Develop and implement models for learner connectedness.

Level:

Intermediate (build on your existing knowledge): Professional learning aimed at practitioners that have specialised theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment.

Virtual Workshop 2 - Building Learner Support & Wellbeing

Dates: Tuesday 4 August or Thursday 22 October

Objectives:

  • Recognise effective engagement frameworks
  • Apply transformational teaching with students.

Learning Outcomes:

This workshop enables participants to:

  • Create supportive learner interrelationships
  • Use strategies and skills to ensure learner engagement and achievement of learning outcomes.

Level:

Introductory (New to the topic):These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have a broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment; they operate independently and seek guidance when necessary. 

 

Virtual Workshop 4 - Supporting Pathways

Dates: Monday 31 August or Monday 16 November

Objectives:

  • Explore the Future of Work
  • Understand the new mindset and how to help students get there.

Learning Outcomes:
This workshop enables participants to:

  • Design learning programs that meet industry expectations and provide meaningful learning experiences
  • Monitor activities of the VET system stakeholders and use this knowledge in program design.

Level:
Introductory (New to the topic):These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have a broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment; they operate independently and seek guidance when necessary. 

Facilitators

Trevor Bayley has a focus on diversity of learners and development of social inclusion models for community-based learning in ACFE and TAFE sectors. Trevor has over 20 years’ experience working in these settings; experience that has informed his approach to participation in education and training that enhances community and economic participation for disadvantage learners.

Virtual workshops: Developing Outreach & Engagement, Building Learner Supporter & Wellbeing and Supporting Pathways.

Karen Dymke has over 20 years' experience in the TAFE and ACFE sector as a teacher, trainer and presenter. She has spent the last number of years embedded in exploring the research that underpins these areas, referencing the meta analysis of Professor John Hattie.
