Webinar: Introduction to Gender Equity

27th May 2021 - 23rd Jun 2021
12:30 PM - 01:30 PM
Online via Zoom, Australia

An Introduction to the Concepts, Impacts and Requirements of Working Towards Gender Equality

Description

The Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) has funded the VET Development Centre (VDC) to develop and deliver specific professional learning for Vocational Education and Training (VET) managers, teachers, trainers and assessors.

The strongest case for gender equality is upholding human rights, gender equality is a fundamental human right. Human rights are the basic freedoms and protections that every human is entitled to, regardless of a person’s gender, sex, age, ethnicity, social status, religious beliefs, sexuality, marital status, or anything else.

Gender equality as a human right is enshrined in international and Australian law. Human rights act as legal parameters to guide the ethical obligations of duty bearers, such as governments and employers, who have the responsibility to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of those under their care. They include civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.

From March 2021, around 300 organisations will be required to develop a Gender Equality Action Plan and report publicly every two years under the Gender Equality Act 2020 (Vic) which aims to improve workplace gender equality across the Victorian public sector.

This professional learning program is in two parts. The Webinar (Part A) will provide participants with an introduction to the concepts around gender equity in the workplace and the case for working towards gender equality. The Gender Equity Microcredential – Apply a Gender Lens (Part B) will be offered free to attendees who can complete an assessment to receive their credential. This credential can be used to support industry knowledge for teachers. (Read more about the Microcredential)
