Introduction to the Victorian Family Violence Multiagency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM)

The Courses:

ONLINE: The online courses are comprised of two x 3-hour virtual workshops (designed so that you complete both program A and program B). When you register online for a course, you are automatically registered for both program A and B. 

The online sessions have been adapted from the full day workshop by experienced VDC consultants.
They will be run in a smaller group, with break out rooms for group discussion and ample opportunity to converse with group members and the facilitator to collaborate, share ideas and insights.
These virtual workshops will also include access to an e-book learning resource for those who attend.

FACE-TO-FACE: These 1-day workshops will be held at the VET Development Centre, Level 8, 379 Collins Street, Melbourne.

Description

The Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) has funded the VET Development Centre (VDC) to develop and deliver specific professional learning for Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers, trainers and assessors.

The MARAM framework was developed in response to a recommendation from the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence and is now being rolled out across a broad range of prescribed organisations and services. This training is designed to support VET teachers/trainers gain an understanding of the fundamentals of family violence risk assessment and risk management processes under the MARAM framework so that they can embed this into their teaching.

Topics Covered:

  • An introduction to the MARAM Framework
  • A shared understanding of family violence
  • Introduction to structural inequality and family violence
  • Familiarity with MARAM tools and resources
  • Risk assessment processes and considerations
  • Risk management
  • Safety planning
  • Collaborative practice.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Trainers/teachers will gain a shared understanding of the MARAM framework, family violence risk assessment and risk management concepts, tools and resources which they can then apply and embed in their teaching relating to family violence.

Level
Intermediate (Build on your existing knowledge): 
These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have specialised theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment.

Audience
These online sessions are designed for VET teachers/trainers who teach in areas relating to health and community services.

These virtual workshops are for experienced Victorian VET teachers, trainers, assessors and managers of: 
• Training Providers of Accredited Training with a Skills First contract (extended to 2021).
• Learn Local providers and
• ACFE funded providers.

Facilitators

Jo Howard is a social worker and family therapist who has been working with family violence for over 30 years. She has also worked within the VET system. Her work includes direct service provision, clinical supervision, training, research and management.

Kerry Marshall is a family therapist and experienced VET trainer/teacher who has worked for more than 30 years within the child protection and community services sector.
