Virtual Workshops:

These online sessions have been adapted from a full day workshop to a 3-hour online virtual workshop by experienced VDC consultants.
They will be run in a smaller group, with break out rooms for group discussion and ample opportunity to converse with group members and the facilitator to collaborate, share ideas and insights.
This virtual workshops will also include access to an e-book learning resource for those who attend.

Description

The Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) provides funding to the VET Development Centre (VDC), to develop and deliver VET the Skills First Professional Learning Program to improve the knowledge, skills and practice of VET teachers, trainers and assessors, and strengthen the learning environment, experience and outcomes for all VET learners.

The VET Teaching Series: Practice virtual workshops have been designed and adapted into highly interactive virtual workshops for 30 participants. These virtual workshops will draw on educational theory and VET policy to promote reflective practice and build advanced training and assessment skills. 

*Please note - this online session is a virtual workshop and there will be no recording of the session.

Follow up online sessions

The VET Teaching Series: Practice also have an action learning activity post the virtual workshop. These follow up online sessions provide an opportunity to reconnect with the facilitator and group in a one-hour session. These online sessions are a chance to network, share insights and consolidate learning.

Introductory (New to the topic):
These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have a broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment; they operate independently and seek guidance when necessary

Virtural Workshop 1

VET Teaching Series: Practice  - Assessing Learners Effectively

Dates: Wednesday, 24 March and Wednesday, 31 March 

Objectives:

  • Use a range of suitable assessment methods and tools consistent with regulatory standards and requirements
  • Evaluate and improve assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

This workshop enables participants to: 

  • Contribute to the development of assessment tools or modify existing tools to suit student needs and context
  • Employ a range of methods to ensure validity and reliability in assessment decisions.

Audience
The workshops are only for VET teachers, trainers and assessors of Training Providers of Accredited Training with a 2021 VET Funding Contract.

 

Virtual Workshop 2

VET Teaching Series: Practice - Creating Effective Learning Experiences

Dates: Wednesday, 28 April and Wednesday, 5 May

Objectives:

  • Understand learning design within VET environments
  • Apply teaching and learning strategies to challenge and motivate individual learners.

Learning Outcomes:

This workshop enables participants to:

  • Create supportive learner relationships
  • Use strategies to ensure learner engagement and learning outcomes in diverse environments.


Virtual Workshop 3

VET Teaching Series: Practice - Evaluating Teaching to Improve Learning Outcomes

Dates: Monday, 10 May and Monday, 17 May

Objectives:

  • Use a range of suitable assessment methods and tools consistent with regulatory standards and requirements
  • Evaluate and improve assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

This workshop enables participants to:

  • Contribute to the development of assessment tools or modify existing tools to suit student needs and context
  • Employ a range of methods to ensure validity and reliability in assessment decisions.

Virtual Workshop 4

VET Teaching Series: Practice - Creating Supportive Learning Environments

Dates: Wednesday, 2 June and Wednesday, 9 June

Objectives:

  • Promote inclusive attitudes and approaches
  • Manage challenging learner behaviour to promote positive learning experiences.

Learning Outcomes:

This workshop enables participants to:

  • Develop and implement models for learner connectedness
  • Demonstrate a range of facilitation strategies to respond to diverse learner groups and contexts.

Facilitators

Cassi Tormey uses her infectious energy for learning and teaching, with an insatiable curiosity about the shared lived experiences of others to help her transform learning experiences through her writing and training. An educator to the core with 30 years of sales, service, leadership and business success under her belt, she will help you see new perspectives and ride your wave of transition/growth with joy and victory.

Virtual Workshop: Evaluating Teaching to Improve Learning Outcomes

Cheméne Sinson specialises in education, learning and performance across various educational sectors, both within Australia and internationally. A former teacher, sport coach and now vocational training specialist, Chemène helps individuals build the essential skills needed to thrive in today’s constantly evolving world of work.

Virtual Workshop: Assessing Learners Effectively

Karen Dymke has been a TAFE and ACFE teacher, trainer and presenter with over 30 years’ experience. Her interest and specialization is in engaging learners and supporting educators in the VET sector to be double professionals, building capacity and capability in educational practice.
