#Monthofcode

Technology 4 Learning is bringing the 2019 #monthofcode this November! Kicking off in week 7, you can attend online and face-to-face events to help prepare you to run the Hour of Code with your students and your school in week 9.

What is #monthofcode?
In preparation for the popular worldwide event Hour of Code in week 9 (9-15 Dec) T4L are hosting a range of online and face-to-face events that will best prepare you to participate or even host your own Hour of Code event. Primary and secondary teachers can learn how to create an app prototype with Keynote, explore Apple Swift Playgrounds, Microsoft MakeCode and discover the computer power of Google Sheets.

The stem.T4L team as well as other areas of the department will be hosting events during week 8 and 9. To find out more and to register visit the stem.T4L Learning Library.

T4L Live Event - 3.30pm-5pm Monday 25 November

Coding comes direct to you! There's no need for you to go anywhere, just simply tune into our live stream for three express sessions hosted by the T4L Team covering:

  • Microsoft - Tune in to discover the Microsoft MakeCode coding platform where students can use block-based coding and JavaScript to code Micro:bits, Lego EV3, MakeCode Arcade and Minecraft: Education Edition. We will also explore the wealth of resources and courses that can support teachers to introduce computational thinking and MakeCode into their classroom.
  • Google -  Coding is about analysing and solving problems with algorithms using computational thinking. While there are many great coding tools to help your students learn to code, you might be surprised at the coding principles you can learn just using formulas in a spreadsheet. This session will show how you can use some of the code-like formulas in Google Sheets such as IF, VLOOKUP, QUERY, SORT, etc to make your Sheets even smarter, while developing an understanding of the ideas behind code.
  • Apple - In partnership with the NSW Department of Education, and the Apple Bondi Store, we would like to invite you to an exclusive after-school Hour of Code event for you and your teaching colleagues. At this event you will hear from Libby Jones, an Apple Distinguished Educator and an NSW Department of Education teacher, about how she integrates coding into her classroom. You’ll also get hands-on with iPad to explore the app design cycle and create an app prototype in Keynote. Bring your iPad or we’ll provide one.
Places are limited so please register ASAP

You will walk away with all the resources you need to build your students computational thinking and coding skills to finish 2019 with a bang. Register now to receive the link!
