Skin Infections and Infestations in Children
Recurrent skin infection and infestations in children has been identified as a significant child health issue within New Zealand. Poverty, lack of time, access, poor knowledge and transportation are some of the factors that have lead to this health issue being more prevalent within lower socioeconomic groups. Access to these vulnerable groups can be readily achieved by nurses who are often the first contact health care provider.
This online course provides the knowledge required to empower nurses to safely asses the child, diagnose and initiate therapy, inclusive of medications under standing orders.

THE FACILITATOR Tom Gorte RN BSC CertEd MN
Tom trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital to be come a paediatric nurse. Early within his carerr, he engaged in coninous professional development which was formalised by obtaining a certificate in adult education. His masters in Nursing is focused on chils health. Currently, he is a Professional Clinician at Massey Unviersity teaching within undergraduate and postgraduate papers as well as within the clinical setting. His knowledge of child health across New Zealand is augmented by his involvement in auditing of child health services across several DHBs.
This is an online course of 6 weeks with flexiable assessment components. Successful completion of all five quizzes will generate a Certificate of Completion with sixteen (16) hours of continuous professional development towards Nursing Competencies.
