Fellow members,
Blessed with the best weather anyone could wish for over the past week, it is not surprising that
those who ventured down the Bay witnessed a mass of boating faithful enjoying what we have on our doorstep.
With the combined cruising groups spending the weekend prior to Australia Day at Canaipa, the 80 people
were making the most of our great facilities. Kevin’s evening meal, breakfast cooked by the committees,
massive pool use, cricket and other activities... what more could we ask for? Apparently the Power Cruisers
continue to be undefeated in the cricket, so there is opportunity for more Sail Cruisers to step up to
the crease to break the record. Many more club members enjoyed Canaipa on Australia Day, prior to moving
to Horseshoe. Whether we are down the coast, at the Pin , Canaipa or Lucinda Bay, it is such a pleasure
to see so many of our Club Members on the water.
Back at RQYS, the traditional Australia
Day celebrations were a roaring success, with a large, COVID compliant contingent enjoying the day of
food and festivities.
Of particular note of congratulations this week is the awarding of
the Order of Australia Medal to PC Mike Tyquin for service to Sailing, the community and business. Well
done Mike, the award is truly deserved.
Windsurfers of the highest level of technology and
performance will flood to our Eastern Beach this weekend for the BrisVegas Windfoil Pro event. Currently
23 entries have registered. Weather predictions are for 10-15 knot sea breezes - a great sailing breeze.
We look forward to the resumption of Club Racing next weekend. Also starting next Friday afternoon
is the Twilight Match Racing Series sponsored by QMTS and Yachtshare. Twilight racing for the division
yachts has proven popular and we hope this encourages the same level of enthusiasm from our Off The Beach
sailors. Be sure to register now.
Safe Sailing and Boating.

Captain Barry Cuneo
