The Marion cultural center is located at 287 diagonal road, Oakland’s park - next to Westfield Marion and the as aquatic and leisure center. It features a theatre, meeting rooms, art gallery, café, foyer, plaza and the cultural center library. The Marion cultural center was officially opened on 23 November 2001 and has an average of approximately 1000 visitors per day. The center’s design reflects the council's strong commitment to environmental awareness and energy efficiency.
The domain theatre has seating for up to 280 people and is ideal for events ranging from theatrical or musical performance to product launches, banquets, film screenings, seminars, meetings and conferences. With modular staging, large projection screen, sound system, theatre lighting and box office facilities, the domain theatre is a beautiful, intimate theatre experience.
The sturt and green rooms are perfect for small to medium sized meetings. Facilities include audiovisual equipment, data projector and screen, electronic whiteboard, flip charts and internet access. The sturt room can accommodate up to 50 people for cocktail functions and the green room can be divided in to dressing rooms for performances in the domain theatre or smaller, intimate meeting spaces.
The library operates 7 days a week and receives over 700 visitors each day. Features include: internet pc access, visitor and tourism information service, imaging service, large print editions, magazines, videos, dvd's, CD-ROM’s. If you feel like some refreshments after exploring the center, signatures café is open every day for coffee, cakes and light meals with senior meal specials daily. Signatures café is also fully licensed and provides onsite catering for meetings and events.
This 'state of the art' facility is the ideal setting for both local and touring art exhibitions. The gallery also has a shop offering a wide range of original, quality pieces made by local south Australian artists at affordable prices. The Marion cultural center hosts a number of events regularly including matinee and cabaret performances, school holiday performances, author talks and special events.
