The University of Sydney became the trustee of this bequest and the Seymour Centre was opened in 1975, designed by Allan Jack and Cottier, followed by internal refurbishments in 2000 by Lahz Nimmo Architects.It’s a venue that has played host to some of Australia’s most famous faces, with Geoffrey Rush, Jackie Weaver, Judy Davis, Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman (in her professional debut) and Mel Gibson among the stars to have trodden the boards in their earliest productions.The Seymour Centre is a performing arts centre housing four performance venues, cafe, bars, expansive foyers and a large leafy courtyard.We present a diverse range of the best of contemporary performing arts; we host major festivals, present large scale performances and partner small and emerging companies to develop and present innovative independent performance.As well as a fantastic performance space, the Seymour is an ideal venue for exhibitions, launches, conferences and functions.
