With its warmth and cathedral-like ambience, the Concert Hall is the most majestic, prestigious and architecturally significant space inside the Opera House. It is the largest of our interior venues, with an audience capacity of up to 2679 in the round.

The Joan Sutherland Theatre, with an audience capacity of up to 1507, it is the second largest indoor venue in the Opera House. Set beneath the eastern sails, the Joan Sutherland Theatre is he home to Opera Australia and The Australian Ballet.

The Drama Theatre is the smaller of our two proscenium arch theatres, offering an intimate theatrical experience to an audience of up to 544. Primarily used for plays, contemporary dance and musical theatre, the theatre regularly features productions by the internationally acclaimed Sydney Theatre Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre and Bell Shakespeare Company. It is also ideal for spoken word performances.

The Playhouse is an intimate 398-seat theatre on the western side of the building, below the Concert Hall. The theatre offers an intimate atmosphere and excellent sightlines from every seat

The Studio offers multiple configurations, which determine the audience capacity. The usual fixed seating capacity is 280, with 156 seats on four sides of the mezzanine and 124 in ‘end seating’ continental style on the floor area.

The Utzon Room is our smallest performance venue. It is an intimate and flexible space that offers a stunning close up experience of the Opera House’s extraordinary architectural features, with spectacular views across Sydney Harbour and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The Forecourt is one of the world's most spectacular outdoor performance spaces and offers the largest capacity of any Opera House venue.
