Position: Associate Professor

Associate Professor Sharon Goldfeld is a paediatrician and public health physician at The Royal Children’s Hospital Centre for Community Child Health (CCCH) and a Research Fellow at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute.


Associate Professor Goldfeld has a fundamental understanding of the Victorian health and education system, child health and development. She has worked in state government for 10 years and until recently was the Principal Medical Advisor for the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

She has been the recipient of the prestigious international Harkness Fellowship in Health Care Policy and the Aileen Plant Medal in Public Health Research.

Position: Deputy Director-General, Early Childhood and Community Engagement

Gabrielle has been in the Queensland Public Service for more than 20 years.

Gabrielle started her professional career as an early childhood teacher and has undergraduate degrees in Teaching and Education, a Master’s degree in Education and an Executive Master’s degree in Public Administration.

Gabrielle is Deputy Director-General and leads the Division of Early Childhood and Community Engagement in the Department of Education and Training. Since 1999 Gabrielle has held Senior Executive positions in a number of departments including Infrastructure and Planning, Local Government and Sport and Recreation, and Corrective Services.

Organisation: Department of Education, Training and Employment - North Queensland Region

Position: Regional Director

Sharon is the Regional Director of Education, Training and Employment in North Queensland. This is a diverse region which encompasses a large geographical area and centres that vary from Queensland’s second largest metropolitan city to rural towns and remote communities. This region covers the area from Townsville north to Ingham; south to the Whitsundays; and west to the Queensland border, including Mount Isa, Camooweal, Urandangi, Boulia and into the Gulf area of Mornington Island, Karumba and Normanton. Sharon’s role focuses on Early Childhood Education and Care; Schooling; and Training portfolios within the DETE agenda of ‘Cradle to Careers’.

Sharon began her career as a primary school teacher and has enjoyed the roles of Deputy Principal, small school Principal and Principal of large metropolitan schools, before moving into a Teaching and Learning Auditor role. This was followed by being part of a team writing coaching modules for the teaching of reading. In 2014, Sharon accepted the opportunity to join the North Queensland Region team, first in the role of Acting Assistant Regional Director (School Performance) which was then followed by the privilege of leading the North Queensland Region as its Regional Director.

Sharon has taught and led teaching and learning in metropolitan, regional and remote Queensland communities before moving to Townsville. She is passionate around improving outcomes and opportunities for all students.
