ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

The Climate Adaptation 2023 organising committee invites authors to submit abstracts for poster display.

Abstract submissions close 11:59pm AEST time on Friday, 23 June 2023.


ABSTRACT THEMES

1. People and industry driving adaptation and innovation - From First Nations to big business, adaptation needs to be embraced and championed. Taking a sectoral approach, this theme will consider how different groups and sectors are planning for climate change and the actions they are taking. It will feature case studies from Indigenous communities, research, industry, non-government organisations? and the private sector. In particular (but not exclusively) we welcome examples of innovative approaches to finance, circular economies, adaptive solutions and co-benefits.
    
2. Governance and risk - Understanding the risks climate change poses, testing management strategies, and ensuring effective governance structures are in place are all critical factors in ensuring agile and appropriate climate responses. This theme considers legal risks, adaptation policy and governance mechanisms at all scales. 
    
3. Building capacity, partnering and engaging for successful adaptation - The building blocks of successful adaptation include building effective partnerships, engaging key stakeholders, and building capacity of all to support adaptation. In this theme we will look at examples of the partnerships and investment in capacity building that are needed to support adaptation action. 
    
4. Managing land and sea for adaptation - Our use, management, including for commercial purposes, and conservation of land, sea and Country will continue to be impacted by climate change. There will be complex and cascading challenges, with management decisions driven by diverse value sets and world views. This theme will explore different approaches to managing natural systems.
    
5. Resilient people, resilient places - The health, social and economic factors that shape where and how well we live also influence individual and community climate adaptive capacity and resilience. This session will consider current and emerging challenges and promising interventions for building effective adaptation in the context of broader drivers.
    
6. Understanding and communicating to inform adaptation - Our ability to adapt effectively and appropriately, and to avoid maladaptation, is advanced by improvements in our understanding of climate change and its impacts, and by communicating this information clearly and openly. This theme presents examples of how improved understanding of climate change and impacts, and delivery of tools, communication strategies and climate services can guide the planning of adaptation and management of risks.
    
7. Other - If your abstract does not fit a theme.

ABSTRACT GUIDELINES

• Abstracts can only be accepted if submitted online via the abstract portal.
• Abstract deadline is Friday, 23 June 2023.
• Please submit as early as possible prior to the deadline (in case you experience technical problems).
• Abstracts will be accepted from any theme/field of climate adaptation, however, to assist us in processing abstracts please select a relevant theme.
• Please select the theme most relevant to your abstract, do not submit the same abstract under different themes. There is an ‘Other’ category if your abstract does not fit a theme.
• A selected number of abstracts will be accepted for poster display based on merit and relevance to the conference key themes.
• Abstracts must be submitted as a Microsoft Word file, written in English and not exceed 300 words in length (excluding authors).
• Author affiliations must be provided in the following format: Group (optional), Department, University/Institute.
• Abstracts must be structured according to the following subheadings:

               + Abstract Title (max. 20 words)
               + Keywords (max. 5 words)
               + Abstract (max. 300 words)

• A high-resolution photo of the first author must be submitted with the abstract (max file size is 1MB).
• You will be notified on the outcome of your abstract submission in July 2023.
• The first author will be considered the contact author for the abstract, only 2 abstracts per first author will be accepted.
• After submission, emails concerning the abstract will be sent to the first author of the abstract. Please ensure that emails from the event administrators are not considered as spam by your email provider.
• At least one author of each successful abstract must register for the event.
• Please do not include references or diagrams.
• Please avoid abbreviations and citations in the abstract.
• Please avoid complex mathematical formulae and Greek letters.
• All funding sources should be acknowledged at the end of the abstract, this is not included within the word count.
• Successful abstracts will be published on the conference website.
• Successful abstracts may be published on the Climate Systems Hub website after the event.
