A/Prof Salvatore (Sam) Fiorenza is a haematologist and physician-scientist with an interest in treating malignant haematological conditions, especially acute myeloid leukemia and stem cell transplantation. Sam conducts research immunotherapy with a particular interest in CAR T-cell therapy. Sam is also the deputy director and medical lead of cellular therapy at Epworth HealthCare

A/Prof Fleming is a clinical and laboratory haematologist practicing at Epworth and is the head of the Myeloid Diseases Service at Alfred Health where he works as a haematologist, CAR-T and bone marrow transplant physician. He has particular expertise in the management of malignant haematological disorders with a particular focus on acute leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes and leads the leukaemia clinical trial program at The Alfred. He chairs the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia working party and is the lead on national studies exploring the use of novel therapies in ALL. He is a conjoint associate professor with the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases at Monash University.

Dr Sumi Ananda is a medical oncologist based at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre,Western Health and Epworth Freemason's. Her particular interests are in gynaecological and gastrointestinal Cancers,(manages all solid tumours). She is focused on providing first class patient care whilst conducting high quality clinical and translational research. She is an Associate Director of Cancer Trials Australia which provides a fully comprehensive oncology clinical trials service. She leads the clinical trials program and education at Western Health and has an established track record in being a Principal Investigator in multiple clinical trials.Her current research interest is in circulating tumour DNA.

Dr Costas Yannakou is a clinical haematologist with a particular interest in clinical trials, the treatment of lymphoma and the use of genomic testing in patients with blood cancers. He holds a number of leadership positions at the Epworth including the co-directorship of the Cancer Services Clinical Institute, the directorship of the Haematology Clinical Trials Unit and the deputy directorship of the Department of Molecular Oncology and Cancer Immunology. He is committed to providing cutting edge treatment options to patients with blood cancers by integrating research into his everyday practice.

David graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2002 and underwent advanced training in haematology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred. He undertook a two-year fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at The Alfred in 2011 and 2012 and started working at University Hospital Geelong as a consultant haematologist in 2013. He has been a member of the Precision Haematology team since 2021 and also holds a position as a clinical haematologist and bone marrow transplant physician at The Alfred.

He looks after patients with a wide range of benign and malignant haematological conditions. His special interests include the management of myelofibrosis and other myeloproliferative disorders and allogeneic stem cell (bone marrow) transplantation.

His current research examines the molecular mechanisms of chronic inflammation and fibrosis in myelofibrosis. He is a member of the Haematology Society of Australia & New Zealand, the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group, the Bone Marrow Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand and the American Society of Hematology.

Dr Gohar Maqbool is a dual-trained clinical and laboratory haematologist with fellowships from Australia and the UK. He has worked as a senior fellow in Stem Cell Transplantation and Immune Effector Cell Therapies at University Hospital Bristol, and as a sonsultant in the Blood & Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy unit at University Hospital, Southampton. He holds certification in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation from the European Blood and Marrow Transplant Society (EBMT).

He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented posters at international transplant and CAR-T meetings. As a member of the eVIQ reference committee for BMT and CAR-T, he has contributed to the development of several national protocols.

He holds public appointment at Alfred Health in the BMT and CAR-T therapy unit and also visits GV Health, Shepparton, providing haematology services to regional Victorian patients and expanding clinical trials access.

Dr. Maqbool specialises in all malignant haematological disorders, particularly myeloid neoplasms, lymphomas, and marrow failure syndromes. He also provides consultative haematology advice on general haematology, e.g., anaemias, blood count abnormalities, immune thrombocytopenia, iron deficiency, paraproteinaemia, and thrombotic disorders.

Dr Indu Raman obtained her medical degree from Monash University and underwent specialist training in clinical and laboratory Haematology at Monash Health and Alfred Health. She has a special interest in Philadelphia negative myeloproliferative disorders, and is undertaking a PHD at Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in collaboration with Snowdome Foundation and Epworth Foundation. In her position as the Gailey Lazarus Myeloid Research Fellow at Molecular Oncology and Cancer Immunology, Epworth, she is responsible for development and expansion of clinical services to patients with myeloproliferative disorders. She is dedicated to increasing access to clinical trials in myelofibrosis for patients of Precision Haematology and Epworth Health. She also has a keen interest in medical student education, and is an adjunct clinical lecturer at Monash.

Dr Sarah Leung graduated from the Medical School of the University of Melbourne, achieving first class honours in Medicine in final year.  She completed her physician training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.  She is the Group Medical Lead of Palliative Care at Epworth HealthCare and a palliative care consultant at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

Sharlyn joined Epworth in August 2024 after completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Advanced Nursing) at The University of Auckland.

She brings extensive clinical experience, having spent four years in the Cardiology and Haematology ward. Her career then took a specialised turn as she focused on thrombosis,

before joining and leading the haematology research at Auckland City Hospital, with a particular emphasis on leukaemia and malignant haematology.
