Cameron Bell is a Senior Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney and a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Sydney.  He has an active interest in bowel cancer and endoscopic training and quality. He is the chair of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia’s National Endoscopy Training Initiative and has been the national lead for the NETI Train the Colonoscopy Trainer program since 2009. He has developed two national colonoscopy quality improvement courses for GESA and convened national ERCP training workshops. He chaired the Working Parties which produced the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Surveillance Colonoscopy for Cancer Council Australia in 2011 and 2019, and was deputy chair of the Cancer Council Australia Working Party which revised the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention, Early Detection and Management of Colorectal Cancer, endorsed by the NH&MRC in 2017.  He is a member of the Clinical Advisory Group for the Australian National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.  He is a member of the World Endoscopy Organization and was involved in the recent development of the Colonoscopy Clinical Care Standards by the Australian Commission on Safety & Quality in Health Care.

Associate Professor Gregor Brown is a physician gastroenterologist and Head of Endoscopy at The Alfred Hospital Melbourne.  He is chair-elect of the Conjoint Committee for the Certification of Training in GI Endoscopy, sits on the Clinical Advisory Group to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, and led the review of the ‘Advances in Colonoscopy’ chapter of the current Australian Surveillance Colonoscopy Guidelines.  He is a past chair of the Australian GI Endoscopy Association, and remains active in the National Endoscopy Training Initiative.  After completing a PhD in Adelaide he spent a year at St Marks Hospital, London, as Endoscopy Fellow.  His main clinical interests are luminal gastroenterology and endoscopy including therapeutic gastroscopy/colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy and balloon enteroscopy. 

He is committed to training and research in colonoscopy technique and advanced polypectomy techniques, as well as coeliac disease, bowel preparation, capsule endoscopy, and device-assisted enteroscopy.

Dr Joshua Butt is a gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist working predominantly across the north of Melbourne. Dr Butt undertook advanced training in Gastroenterology in Victoria before completing advanced endoscopy training with fellowships at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Butt holds public appointments as the Head of Endoscopy Services at Northern Health and Gastroenterologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is interested in the patient experience and has conducted research including a study aiming to optimise dietary preparation for colonoscopy with the “White Diet”. He recently contributed to the bowel preparation section of the updated Clinical Practice Guideline for Surveillance Colonoscopy released by the Cancer Council and NHMRC.

Mr Ian Hastie is a colorectal surgeon with expertise in bowel cancer and surgical oncology. His areas of interest include: inflammatory bowel disease, benign and malignant disease of the pelvis, complex fistula disease and faecal incontinence. Following Fellowship in Oxford, UK Mr Hastie is a pioneer in minimally invasive colorectal surgery with extensive experience in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He is credentialed in advanced endoscopy including colonoscopy and gastroscopy.

Mr Hastie is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Gastroenterology Clinical Institute at Epworth HealthCare. He has been an invited speaker at both international and local conferences. Mr Hastie has been involved in the training of colorectal surgeons, Registrars, Residents and medical students for over 15 years at both the Epworth and Royal Melbourne Hospitals.

Dr Bronte Holt is an Interventional Gastroenterologist at St Vincent’s Hospital and Senior Clinical Fellow at The University of Melbourne. Dr Holt commenced an endoscopy fellowship at Westmead Hospital in 2011, during which she obtained a PhD through The University of Sydney. She went on to join the Center for Interventional Endoscopy in Florida, USA, as Endoscopy Fellow in 2013. Dr Holt’s endoscopic interests include diagnostic and interventional EUS, pancreatic and biliary ERCP, advanced resection including POEM and ESD, and management of complicated IBD. Dr Holt is an NHMRC Early Career Fellow, and enjoys involvement in clinical trials and supervision of PhD candidates.

Fellowships at Westmead Hospital Sydney and Cambridge UK. Performs endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic mucosal resection, endotherapy for Barrett’s Oesophagus and luminal stenting. Also an accredited endoscopist for the UK BCSP, involved in promotion of quality endoscopy and audit.

Particular interest in pancreatology, running a multi-disciplinary pancreatic clinic.

Research interests include novel molecular markers in pancreatico-biliary lesions, being Chief Investigator for several international studies, and novel endoscopic devices for diagnostics and therapeutics, including confocal endomicroscopy and EUS-RFA.

Associate Professor Luis Prado MBBS FRACMA FRACGP FACHE FCHSM FAAQHC FISQua FACMQ Grad Dip Sp Med, is the Executive Director Academic and Medical Services and Chief Medical Officer of Epworth HealthCare. He is a specialist in medical administration and clinical governance, and a censor and board director of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators. He is also a practicing specialist general practitioner with a special interest in sports medicine.

A/Professor Prado is the first Australian to hold Fellowships, by examination, of both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Medical Quality. He also holds Fellowships of the Australian College of Health Service Management, the Australian Association of Quality in Health care and the International Society of Quality in Healthcare.

Dr Peter Tagkalidis is a gastroenterologist with an interest in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP. Dr Taylor trained in gastroenterology at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and in Edinburgh, Scotland and undertook further study in Germany. He completed a Doctor of Medicine research degree in 2000, on the assessment of new techniques in endoscopy. His areas of special interest are advanced interventional endoscopy, including removal of large colonic polyps, management of Barrett’s oesophagus and small bowel investigations. Dr Taylor is Head of Endoscopy at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and leads the Barrett’s endoscopic treatment programme at St Vincent’s. He is involved in ongoing clinical research in Barrett’s and other areas. Dr Taylor’s private practice is based at Eastern Gastrointestinal Specialists, Epworth Eastern Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital.
