Position: Specialist Physiotherapist

Wendy Braybon is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist, who specialises in shoulder pain.  Having travelled as the Physiotherapist with the Australian Softball team, she is now the Head Physiotherapist for the Womens Australian Gymnastics Team giving her many years of experience in treating the sporting shoulder.
Wendy was a physiotherapist at five Olympic games and was the Head Physiotherapist for the Australian Team at the 2012 London Olympics.
She is the Physiotherapy Coordinator at The Victorian Institute of Sport, and works in Private Practice at Melbourne Physiotherapy Pilates and Fitness Group. She also lectures on postgraduate courses on the shoulder.

Position: Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Andrew Byrne is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon, who is Australian trained in Melbourne and Sydney.  Andrew attended an advanced orthopaedic fellowship under the supervision of Associate Professor Leo Pinczewski at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre.  He continued with a fellowships in Oxford, UK and Toledo, Ohio, USA in arthroplasty and became a member of the Girdlestone Orthopaedic Society.  Having worked in Ballarat in private practice, Andrew was able to follow his interests more generally than most orthopaedic surgeons.  He gained expertise in shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty and has also maintained his interest in computer navigation surgery of the knee including robotics.  Andrew has extensive experience in the direct anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty.  He has recently transferred this expertise to the Epworth Hospital in Geelong, where he now practices.  Andrew continues to visit Ballarat on a weekly basis.

Position: Clinical Director of Imaging

Associate Professor David Connell is a musculoskeletal radiologist in private practice, an associate professor (adjunct) in the Faculty of Medicine, Monash University, and also associate professor (adjunct) to the newly created Facility of Sports Medicine and Research at La Trobe University. He is recognised as an international authority on muscle and tendon injuries. He has authored 101 publications, including book chapters and educational CD-Roms. He has been an invited speaker to major meetings in 19 different countries. He is the past president of the Australasian Musculoskeletal Imaging Group, sits on the editorial board of 5 journals, and he is an instructor on the Erasmus MRI European diploma. He supervises 2 musculoskeletal fellowships and several PhD candidates. He is an elected fellow to the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine (UK).
David returned to Melbourne in 2010 after eight years in London, and established a diagnostic and treatment facility for elite athletes in AAMI stadium, Olympic Park.   He has been a radiologist at the Sydney and London Olympics, and has a long history of imaging and treating elite athletes from the Royal Ballet, UK Athletics and national teams in football, rugby and cricket. He currently cares for most AFL teams, Melbourne Victory and Storm, Australian Olympic Teams and Australian cricket.  His current research is on cytokine therapy for the treatment of tendon disorders and osteoarthritis.

Position: Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Richard Dallalana is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has a particular interest in the use of arthroscopic reconstructive techniques and computer assistance in shoulder arthroplasty. He hosts a post-graduate fellowship training program and is an educational and design consultant to industry.

He is consultant surgeon and director of upper limb services, Western Health.

Position: Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician

Professor Jane Fitzpatrick is a specialist Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician working in Melbourne. She has been a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Medicine since 1992 and was the Treasurer of the College for several years. She was a founding member of the International Olympic Committee – Triathlon Medical Commission and the team doctor for the Australian Triathlon Team for 10 years.  Jane is currently the team physician for the Australian Cross Country ski Team and the Medical Director for the Australian Biathlon Team. She is a member of the International Biathlon Union Medical Committee (and chairs the Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee) and the Medical Director for the Australian Winter Youth Olympic Games Team, Lillehammer 2016. She is the Principal Investigator (PI) in Melbourne for Zynerba Pharmaceuticals in a Phase II study using cannabinoid gels in osteoarthritis of the knee and also leading a randomised controlled trial using leucocyte and platelet injections (LR-PRP) in gluteal tendinopathy. She has a particular interest in new developments in the treatment of osteoarthritis and tendinopathy.

Position: Sport & Exercise Physician

Dr Peter Larkins is a specialist sports and exercise physician in clinical practice and a Founding member of the Epworth Sports & Exercise Medicine Group in Richmond, Victoria.  His practice focuses on the management of sport and other musculoskeletal injuries as well as the effects of exercise and lifestyle on health promotion in all age groups.

He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians and former National Vice-president of the College. He is also a Fellow of Sports Medicine Australia and Past National President of that Association, Australia’s peak advisory body on health and fitness issues.

He is a regularly invited speaker and author on a wide range  of sports medicine topics and has been a medical commentator on multimedia networks including Channel 9 and Channel 7 television, Triple M and 3AW radio, particularly on matters relating to AFL football. He has also written a regular sports injury column in the Herald Sun newspaper in Melbourne. He has regularly appeared on Fox Footy channel and has a weekly medical segment on the afl.com website.

Professor Richard O'Brien trained in Clinical Immunology and General Medicine and
currently practices in rheumatology, allergy and general medicine at Epworth HealthCare.

Mr Rohan Price is an orthopaedic surgeon with sub-specialty expertise in shoulder and knee surgery. He has a specialised interest in arthroscopic surgery for sporting injuries, shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, knee ligament injuries and surgery for shoulder and knee arthritis.

Position: Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Eden Raleigh is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with extensive overseas surgical experience in London, Paris and Canada. His main interests are complex shoulder and knee surgery. After completing his medical degree at Monash University in 1998, and his surgical residency at the Alfred Hospital, he was selected into the Australian Orthopaedic Training Program in 2003, completing his training in 2006. He then spent two and a half years undergoing sub-speciality fellowship training in shoulder and knee surgery Eden was awarded the Guy's & St. Thomas Orthopaedic Arthroplasty Fellowship in 2008, in London, UK, after completing a 1 year trauma fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2007. Eden then spent 6 months in Paris working with Europe's finest surgeons at the prestigious Centre Médico-Chirurgical Paris V Hospital, where he was also heavily involved in research activities.Upon completion of his fellowship in Paris, he travelled to Canada to work at the internationally renowned Panam Clinic, where he obtained a fellowship in Shoulder Surgery. He worked under the supervision of Prof. Peter MacDonald, who is a world-renowned expert in shoulder stabilisation surgery.

Jane Rooney is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2009) and Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (1997).

Jane has over 25 years experience as a clinician and is a Clinical Leader at Lifecare Prahran Sports Medicine Centre and Lifecare Prahran Market Injury Rehab, in Melbourne. 

Jane is an Honorary Lecturer at Melbourne University, La Trobe University and The Australian Physiotherapy Association.  Her professional interests include complex combined shoulder and spinal presentations.

Position: Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Andrew Tang is Director of the Musculoskeletal Clinical Institute at Epworth HealthCare.  Andrew is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon who operates at Epworth Richmond having commenced as a specialist orthopaedic surgeon in 1994.  He has undertaken international post-graduate postings in London at Kings College Hospital, as well as Singapore General Hospital (2006-2008) where he specialised in adult reconstructive knee surgery.

Locally his career has included appointment as Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Alfred Hospital (2004-2006), overseeing a team of ten surgeons including the professional development of the unit's Orthopaedic Registrars, in addition to his continued surgical practice. 

Andrews career interests are in knee surgery including replacement and reconstruction, and trauma surgery.  His current focusses are knee replacement, computer aided navigation in joint replacement and robotic surgery.

Position: Orthopaedic Surgeon

Associate Professor Martin Richardson is Research Officer for the Musculoskeletal Clinical Institute at Epworth HealthCare. Martin is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon who operates at Epworth Richmond and Eastern, having commenced as a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1995.  He has undertaken a shoulder fellowship with Mr Simon Bell and a Knee fellowship with Mr John Bartlett, and an international post-graduate posting in Portland, Oregon, USA.   He is a Surgeon Commander RANR and served in Kandahar, Afghanistan during 2014.  He is currently Associate Clinical Dean of the new University of Melbourne clinical school at Epworth and recently completed his Master of Surgical Education. Locally, his career has included appointment as Director of Trauma Orthopaedic Surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (2004-2008).

Dr Lachlan Henderson is a medical practitioner who has 30 years’ experience in the health industry, joining Epworth in February 2017.

Lachlan’s previous executive roles include CEO St John of God (SJG) Subiaco Hospital, Executive Director of SJG Perth Northern Region, CEO SJG Pathology and the Group Director Medical Services and Strategy, SJG. Prior to taking on these roles, he was a General Practitioner for more than a decade. Critical to his success has been his focus on quality patient care and staff satisfaction while enhancing the business and financial outcomes for the organisation.

In his career, Lachlan has held a variety of University and Board appointments. He is currently Vice President of the Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) and Chair of Cricket Australia.
