Dr. Gasse is associate professor in Pharmacoepidemiology at the internationally renowned National Centre of Register-based Research (NCRR), Aarhus University, Denmark (http://ncrr.au.dk/), where she has been working since 2007. Dr. Gasse has a background in pharmacy (University of Muenster, Germany) and Pharmacoepidemiology (McGill University, Montreal, Canada; Boston Collaborative Drug Survellance Program (BCDSP), Boston University, USA). 

Dr. Gasse’s main research currently focuses on studies of the interactions between genetic and environmental factors on risk of psychiatric disorders and (pharmacological) outcomes by integrating population-based laboratory, clinical and genetic data into population-based register studies. Here her focus is mainly on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression as part of the The Lundbeck Foundation Initiative for Integrative Psychiatric Research"- iPSYCH (http://ipsych.au.dk/about-ipsych/). The main goals of iPsych are to identify the causes of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, autism and ADHD by studying the genetic and environmental factors and thereby finding new targets for prevention and personalized treatment.

Dr. Gasse’s main research interests are treatment resistant schizophrenia, metabolic and somatic aspects associated with psychiatric disorders and (psycho-)pharmacological treatment, as well as impact of inflammation and infections and their treatments on the risk of psychiatric disorders and outcomes.

Kriek, Marjolein, MD, PhD and obtained her doctorate in Biomedical Science

Dr. Kriek is one of the workpackage leaders within the European U-PGx project on implementation of pharmacogenetics.
In addition, she is an acknowledged member of The Leiden Network of Personalised Therapeutics.
She has been closely involved in the process of introducing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in a clinical setting at her department. She has extensive knowledge in handling ethical issues related to applying NGS as a diagnostic tool.
In 2008, Dr Kriek became the first woman to have her total DNA genome sequenced. As a result she has given numerous presentations on national and international meetings both for experts within the genetic fields as for the general public. 

I am currently the Bioinformatics Human Capital Development Manager at the Centre for Proteomic and Genomic Research (CPGR) based in Cape Town, South Africa. Prior to that I rolled out the Bioinformatics service platform from inception at the CPGR and was the Bioinformatics manager for over five years. My initial tertiary education commenced with Hons in Biomedical Sciences at University of Westminister, London. Thereafter I specialized in Bioinformatics and obtained an MSc in this discipline from the University of Abertay, Dundee, Scotland followed by a PhD from Cranfield University, UK. The knowledge, skills and expertise gained in Bioinformatics, combined with over eight years of managerial and technical experience, will be applied in my commitment to developing Bioinformatics capacity in South Africa. In addition to my responsibilities at the CPGR, I am a Co-Principal Investigator on an NIH funded H3ABioNet (H3A pan African Bioinformatics Network) project. In this role I am tasked with supporting and leading my team to provide bioinformatics expertise to life scientists in personalized medicine, addressing a wide range of biological questions from gemomics to systems biology in Human Hereditary and Health, including finance, strategic development, stakeholders and grant management. 

I am well connected with key local and international bioinformatics stakeholders through active involvement in various networks, societies, initiatives, projects and interest groups as part of my work. My passion for interacting with people and my excellent networking ability enable me to get buy in from stakeholders globally. I have extensive links to, amongst others, H3A, GOBLET, EMBNET, PGENI, ASHG, SAHG, SASA, SASBi and various training networks. I am committed to developing local capacity in Africa in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. 

At the National Bioinformatics Service Platform (BSP) of South Africa I am a member of the Steering Committee as well as the chair of Education and Training sub Committee. I am also the Associated Node Manager for EMBNET, where I was elected as the public relations and publicity committee member. At the CPGR, I established and continue to manage the mini internship programme (MIP) from 2011, the Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP, www.ktp.cpgr.org.za) from 2013 and the online training programmes, aimed at developing specific skill sets required for the next generation of in silico biologists and bioinformaticians. I have successfully supervised many postgraduate students at various levels at Cranfield University, Stellenbosch University (US) and University of Cape Town (UCT). My broad research interests include personalized medicine and pharmacogenomics, information management and knowledge extraction, standardization in bioinformatics and e-learning.

Prof. Dr. Ron van Schaik (PhD, FACB) is a registered European Specialist Laboratory Medicine (2003) and a Full Professor of Pharmacogenetics (2013). He is working at the Dept. Clinical Chemistry at the Erasmus university Medical Center Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is Director of the International (IFCC) Reference Center for Pharmacogenetics and leads the Unit Research & Development of the Dept. Clinical Chemistry. Main responsibility is Pharmacogenetic translational research and diagnostic implementation. He has published over 240 articles in pharmacogenetics.

The research focus of Prof van Schaik is on translational research and clinical implementation of pharmacogenetics. Specific areas of research in pharmacogenetics are oncology (tamoxifen, taxanes), pain (opioids), immunosuppressants (tacrolimus, cyclosporine, MMF) and psychiatry (antidepressants). For the development of new markers, Prof van Schaik is currently active on cell free DNA projects, involving clinical application of EGFR mutation detection for lung cancer, and AR-V7 analysis from exosomes for castrate resistant prostate cancer. Further fields of interest are Prostate Cancer Biomarkers and Cardiac Markers.

Prof van Schaik participates in National and International advisory committees on Pharmacogenetics, a.o. chair of the IFCC Task Force Pharmacogenetics (www.ifcc.org), chair of the European Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (Eu-PIC; www.eu-pic.net), President of the European Society for Pharmacogenomics & Personalized Therapy (www.esptnet.eu), advisor of the Pharmacogenetics Working Group of the European Medicine Agency (EMA), member of the Clinical Pharmacogenetic Impleemntation Consortium (CPIC), member of the Dutch KNMP Working Group Pharmacogenetics and chair of the Dutch Network for Clinical Pharmacogenetics (www.pgx-net.nl).
In 2001, he received the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Award for Outstanding Research, in 2009 the AACC Outstanding Speaker Award, and in 2010 the AACC/Mol Pathology Award for Outstanding Scientific Research.
